| I like it dead, you shouldn't. |
In a world where food was not always easy to come by finding something you didn't have to hunt down may seem a blessing however God made it clear that Israel wasn't to eat it. They could use it for other purposes but not to put in their bodies. Today with an understanding of diseases and bacteria we can understand that God's intention wasn't to keep the people from getting a simple meal but to protect them from getting sick and dying. Here as in other places, the Law was given to the people to protect them.
