Leviticus 16

It is interesting to note that it is noted that God gave the commands to Aaron after the death of his sons. This caught my attention and I looked to see what other commentators thought. What I found meshed with what felt like the truth to me. The reason for this obvious addition is to remind the reader why it was dangerous for Aaron to not follow the commands of God. God was very serious about how the atonement for the people and entry into the Most Holy Place was to be carried out. This was, after all, to be a picture of what God would do for the people of Israel and the world through Jesus. It is also a reminder that if we try to find atonement any other way it will end in our death, maybe not our physical death but absolutely our spiritual death.
