Jeremiah 1

Jeremiah 1:18-19 "Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord."

It's popular today in the USA to make statements against our leaders and the people of the nation in general. This isn't true or even safe in most of the world, and it wasn't during Jeremiah's time. Jeremiah wasn't wanting to set himself up as the guy who knows it all or the guy with all the answers. He told God he wasn't qualified. Yet God chose him to do something hard. God did promise him that he would take care of him, but as the book proceeds, this didn't mean that Jeremiah didn't suffer. Jeremiah suffered, but God took care of him and rescued him from death.

There were other prophets that God didn't deliver. In the New Testament, Jesus promised persecution and death. However, following God is always worth the price. Before someone says it's not worth it, I have to say I've seen people without hope of eternity, and what they have is, in my opinion, not worth it.
