Numbers 32

The tribes that stayed on the Eastern side of Jordan did right by their brothers and God seems willing to allow them, but I have to wonder if this was the best? There is no indication that God told the people to do this, they decided that this place was good and wanted to say.  This bothers me and there isn't any proof that this was disobedience but if it was God's best I would have thought that God would have instructed Moses to do this. I may be wrong but could it be that they gave up, what may have been better for what was good. It is a question that can't be answered but it causes me to pray, God don't let me accept what is good if you have something better for me.
