David in the first two verses is making a commitment that he will praise God. This is not some light promise but a determination to follow through. The amazing thing about this commitment is it comes after for most would have been a humiliation. He acted like a madman. He let himself be seen in a position of weakness. When the Bible relates the story it says they drove him out. I'm quite sure it wasn't a pleasant experience. Soldiers throwing out a madman before there was any moral (in the pagan world) or legal protection for the mentally ill. So here is a man who probably could have taken out the soldiers tormenting him going quietly. Then once thrown out in humiliation, praises God. I have to say that David had faith.
